FAQs

Do you attend homebirth?

Yes! Wherever you choose to birth, I will be by your side. If that happens to be in the comfort of your home, I’d love that. Doulas attend births at home, at birthing centers and hospitals!

Do you come to my home to support me in labor, before I’m ready to go to the hospital/birth center?

Absolutely. And.. I think it’s an excellent idea to labor at home as long as you’d like. I’m happy to come support you until you’re ready to make the transition to your place of birth.

Will you support me if I choose an epidural?

Of course! Only you know what is best for your birth. I am there to support you through whatever you decide. Even if you change your mind! Epidurals are just one tool in our toolbox, and they definitely have a time and place. If you choose this route, I will help you to prepare for laboring without one until you feel it is the right time. A doulas presence can be invaluable for optimal positioning, emotional support and labor progress once an epidural is on board!

Do you have a back-up doula in case you’re with another family when I need support?

Yes. We are in the business of “showing up.” While needing back-up is rare, it’s important that we have a back up doula (or three) when doing this work. We have a pretty tight-knit network — and we have each other’s backs. You can rest assured that you will receive a skilled and knowledgable doula in place, should I be with another family when you call me.

If I have a midwife, why would I need a doula ?

Although Midwives and Doulas work great together, it’s important to understand that they provide very different care/support. The Midwife is there to monitor the physical health and well-being of you and baby. They are your healthcare provider. A Doula provides emotional, informational, educational, psychological, logistical, practical AND physical support throughout pregnancy, through birth and immediate postpartum! The support a Doula provides cannot be summed up in one answer so if you’re looking for more information about the differences, check THIS out!
