What is HypnoBirthing?

It’s normal for those who are pregnant to fear childbirth, just the idea of it can cause anxiety. This stress is an unnecessary distraction when your body is going through the process it knows how to do.

HypnoBirthing classes teach breathing and meditation techniques that help those in labor practice relaxation to trust their bodies and babies. You can learn to have your baby calmly and with less pain.

FAQs

  • Yes!

While birth is unpredictable, the confidence of having been taught the different paths a birth can take and the techniques to manage them reduces the fear that makes labor more stressful.

While we cannot promise a pain-free birth, parents who take our course have reported lower intervention rates, fewer surgical births, and – you guessed it – lower rates of pain medication use. In fact, those who take the class have reported shorter births, more comfort, and happier babies.

We promise to provide you with support, knowledge, and tools for achieving your unique birth goals.

  • Most expecting parents begin the class series between 20-32 weeks. We encourage you to register as soon as possible! This will give you more time to practice before your birthing day.

Classes are on four consecutive Tuesday & Thursday evenings for 2.5 hours. We recommend you not be more than 37 weeks along for the final class in hopes you complete the course before going into labor.

  • Most parents enroll in HypnoBirthing because they are afraid of the pain that can accompany childbirth and they are looking for ways to cope, but soon they experience so many other benefits from the program:

    • Shorter 1st and 2nd phase labor, reducing labor by several hours

    • Gives your partner or birthing companion an integral role in the birthing

    • Fewer interventions and surgical births

    • Reduces the need for an episiotomy

    • Fewer pre-term and low-weight babies

    • Infants with higher-than-average APGAR scores

    • Happier and more content mothers & babies!

  • All of the evidence-based teachings practiced in the class give expecting parents the tools needed for a calm and gentle birth:

    • Positions, movements & comfort measures for labor & birth

    • Relaxation, self-hypnosis & breathing techniques

    • Support techniques for dad/partner, like pain-reducing massages

    • How to advocate for your birth choices, natural induction methods, and special circumstances & medical intervention

    • Nutrition for pregnancy, birth & breastfeeding

    • The 4th trimester & infant feeding

  • When you attend a HypnoBirthing class, you will receive:

    • Positive, quality prenatal education trusted for over 30 years

    • The Book: HypnoBirthing® – The Mongan Method

    • The Rainbow Relaxation and additional relaxation recordings

    • Parent workbook/handouts

    • Support and understanding as you bond with your birth companion and baby

    • Trust and guidance from your HypnoBirthing educators

  • Of course! Pre-planned and emergency C-sections are just another path your birth can take. The core principles learned from HypnoBirthing can still be applied to ensure you are prepared and calm.

    • Deep, calm breathing relaxes the nerves and reduces stress hormones, which improves how the body responds to anesthesia.

    • The provided guided relaxation MP3s promote a deep sense of relaxation which can lead to a quicker and easier surgery and healing process.

    • This program educates parents on the options they should discuss with their birth team, including how to plan a gentle cesarean, a family-centered cesarean, newborn procedures, and postpartum care.

  • Our educators have been trained and certified by the HypnoBirthing Institute, founded by Marie Morgan. All the information on this page and more can be found at hypnobirthing.com.
