  • Gianna Taylor

My business is called A Doula’s Calling because I truly believe that I was called to this work. Prior to coming into birthwork, I was a preschool teacher and program supervisor for infants and toddlers. I absolutely adored every second in the classroom and I like to think that the ending of that journey sort of led me to the beginning of this one. Even though I had worked with babies/toddlers for many years- when I found out I was pregnant with my own I didn’t really know anything about the childbirth or postpartum experience and it was scary to me simply because it was unknown. I knew what I wanted my birth to look like in theory but didn’t know anyone who had experience with that kind of birth (or any positive experiences in general). So, I decided to get a doula and it was honestly the best thing I could have done. I have never felt so heard and so supported through a journey as wild as pregnancy and birth can be. She was a game changer for not only me, but for my husband as well and I know that my experience and birth would have gone very differently had we not had her behind us every step of the way. Once I started learning about all things birth and postpartum I couldn’t stop and I was so interested in birthwork and what doulas actually do. Then, I had my daughter and I knew without a doubt that this is the work that I wanted to be doing. Since then, I’ve gotten to be that same kind of unconditional support for other women and their partners and I consider it such a great honor!
